Some laptops have two GPUs. This setup is called “switchable graphics” because the laptop can switch between the two GPUs depending on what you’re doing.

If you're experiencing performance dips when using CANVID on your laptop, these troubleshooting steps should help fix these issues.

Change CANVID's GPU to High Performance (Nvidia)

  1. Go to the Start Menu then go to Settings. If it’s not pinned to your Start Menu, type “Settings” in the search bar.
  2. Select the System tab, then go to Display.
  3. Scroll down to find Graphics under Related Settings.
  4. Look for Canvid in the list of Apps installed on your computer. Otherwise, click Browse under Custom options for apps, then look for Canvid.exe. Click Add.

    Note:
By default, you can find it in C:\Program Files\Canvid\Canvid\
  5. Once added, get back to the list and click Options under Canvid.
  6. Under Graphics preference, select High performance then click Save.

Set the external monitor as your primary display

If you are using an additional monitor with your laptop, setting it as your primary display should help you work around the following known issues:

A. When setting CANVID to run on "High performance"

  • If your laptop screen is the main display, only the external monitor is detected when you select Display Capture in Canvid.
  • If the external monitor is selected as your primary display, both monitors are detected.

B. When setting CANVID to run on "Power saving"

  • If the external monitor is selected as your primary display, only the laptop screen is detected when selecting Display Capture in CANVID.
  • If your laptop screen is the primary display, both monitors are detected.

  1. Go to the Start Menu then go to Settings. If it’s not pinned to your Start Menu, type “Settings” in the search bar
  2. Select the System tab, then go to Display.
  3. Select your external monitor, then check Make this my main display

Note: CANVID will handle this case automatically in the future.

These steps are tested to work and should improve CANVID's performance when using a laptop with switchable graphics. If the issue persists, please review your computer if it meets Canvid's minimum or recommended system requirements. Feel free to contact us if you need further assistance.
