CANVID Editor: UI & Zooming Basics

Learn the basics of navigating the CANVID Editor. Customize your video's aspect ratio, and add zooms that will bring focus to parts of your video that matter.

The CANVID editor allows you to customize your screen recordings with tools and features to personalize the overall look and feel of your video.


Preview Screen

The CANVID Editor provides a real-time preview of your video. As you make adjustments, you’ll see how the final output will look.


Cropping

If you want to trim away parts of the screen recording you don’t want to include in the final video, click the Crop button. This will bring up the Cropping dialog box where you can click and drag the edges of the screen to your liking.

  • Click the “Crop” button to trim unwanted parts from your screen recording.
  • Adjust the edges by dragging them to your desired position.
  • For precise trimming, manually set the resolution, aspect ratio, and position.

Remember to confirm changes or discard them if needed.


Changing Aspect Ratio

The option to change your recording’s aspect ratio is available to anyone who wants the flexibility to show their video to fit different platforms and devices.

  • Click the aspect ratio button (next to the Crop button) and select your preferred ratio.
  • By default, Canvid adapts the aspect ratio based on your screen recording’s resolution.

Timeline

  • The timeline displays the video track (in green) and zoom elements (blue).
  • CANVID automatically adds zoom effects based on cursor movement and clicks.
  • Navigate the timeline by dragging the horizontal scrollbar or using your mouse scroll wheel.

Trimming & Deleting

  • Use the cut tool to trim unwanted segments from your video.
  • Click a timestamp on the timeline, then select the cut tool.
  • Undo cuts by right-clicking and choosing “Undo Cut Markers.”
  • Removed sections appear faded in the timeline.

Adding a New Zoom Segment

In the CANVID timeline, hover your cursor just below the green bar until you see a blue reticle. Click on it to add a new zoom element.

Customizing Zoom Properties

Click on the zoom segment you want to customize. A submenu will appear on the left pane.

Zoom Mode:

  • Auto: Allows CANVID to zoom relative to your mouse clicks and cursor location.
  • Manual: Choose this option to manually select the screen area to zoom in. Click on your preferred location on the mini screen.

Zoom Level:

Use the slider to adjust the zoom intensity.

  • Set as Default: Changes the default zoom level for subsequent zoom segments.
  • Apply to All Zooms: Apply the current zoom level to all existing zoom segments.
  • Delete Zoom: Removes the selected zoom segment from the timeline.

After this, you can focus on further enhancing your video's aesthetics by taking advantage of CANVID Editor's sidebar tools.
