When recording a specific window using tools like CANVID, you might encounter an issue where dropdown menus or similar elements don’t appear in your screen captures. This is a common quirk due to the way dropdown menus are designed—they are often considered separate windows and may not be included in the captured content.

Solution: Use CANVID’s Display Capture & Cropping Tools

  1. Open CANVID on your computer.
  2. In the Recording Selection Window, choose Display. This will enable you to capture everything visible on your entire display, including dropdown menus and other app elements.
  3. Click the red button at the bottom center of the Recording Preview to start recording.

Pro Tip: Back Up Your Work

When you're done recording, it’s a good practice to save a copy of your project before anything else. In the CANVID Editor, go to the upper-left corner menu and select Save Project As.

Cropping Unwanted Areas

Since the Display option records the entire screen, It may also capture unwanted screen elements such as the taskbar and dekstop icons. If you prefer not to include them in your recording, you can crop out parts of the screen you don’t want to show using CANVID Editor’s Crop tool:

The Crop tool button is just below the preview, next to the playback controls.

Stopping the recording should take you directly to the CANVID Editor.

  1. Click the Crop button located at the lower-right corner of the screen to reveal the Crop menu.
  2. Click and drag the edges of the screen to crop it to the desired size. You can also fine-tune the crop by adjusting values in the Size & Position boxes at the top.
  3. Once you’re satisfied, click Confirm Changes.
